About Pine Valley
Pine Valley Middle School continually encourages and supports the intellectual, social, physical and emotional growth of all students, recognizing their unique needs as middle grade students.
In order to support the needs of our students, Pine Valley:
- Delivers equal access to standards-based, academically rigorous curriculum for all students.
- Presents a variety of research-based instructional strategies and assessments to respond to students' diverse needs.
- Provides a safe, orderly and nurturing environment in which students understand their responsibility to one another and to the school community.
- Enhances the development of character, creativity, imagination, and personal goals.
- Recognizes that as a community of learners, students, parents and all staff have a responsibility to work collaboratively and collegially using technology to advance student achievement.
- Promotes acceptance, celebrates diversity and uniqueness, and encourages pride in school while contributing to the greater good of the community.

California Distinguished School
The 2009 California School Recognition Program (CSRP) directly focuses on California’s students and their entitlement to an equitable and rigorous education. Under the 2009 CSRP, the California Distinguished Schools Award identifies and honors those schools that have demonstrated educational excellence for all students.
In order to be invited to apply for Distinguished School honors, schools must meet a variety of eligibility criteria including designated federal and state accountability measures based on No Child Left Behind (NCLB), Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), and the Academic Performance Index (API) requirements.
Elementary and secondary (middle and high) schools are recognized during alternate years. The criteria for school selection are based on the submission of an application, including a comprehensive description of two of the school’s successful signature practices, an application review, along with a site visit designed to validate the full implementation of the submitted practices.
Applications are reviewed for completeness by teams of educators from across the state under the direction of the CDE. Applications deemed complete will move forward in the process as a state nominee. Each nominee receives a site visit by a team of educators to validate the full implementation of the submitted practices. The site visits are conducted as a collaborative effort between the CDE and county superintendents of schools.
Schools selected for recognition are honored as Distinguished Schools at an awards ceremony where State Superintendent O’Connell presents each school with a 2009 California Distinguished School plaque and flag. The event and awards are funded by donations from many of California’s most prominent corporations and statewide education organizations.
